Advanced Cloud Security Adoption Will Only Increase In 2025

While past industry surveys have indicated that the cloud is central to any current physical security program, new insights show that cloud-connected security protocols are going to be at the forefront even more over the next 12 months.

Last month, Verkada released findings conducted by The Harris Poll that questioned security experts on the current state of cloud-based physical security. The poll of more than 1,500 IT and physical security leaders showed that 92% of respondents stated that “the future of physical security is in the cloud.”

The survey offers a true temperature check of where security leaders currently stand on the importance of the cloud. The findings also showed that 86% of respondents who had not “fully transitioned to the cloud plan to do so.” This includes 90% of individuals who currently have totally on-premises security systems and 85% of respondents who already deploy a combination of “cloud and on-premise.” Beyond this, 75% said that they plan on transitioning to the cloud in the next year and 96% said they would do so in the next 18 months.

These results reveal that even those who might have been slow to take on this modern technology now have dispensed with those qualms and are ready to fully adopt the cloud.

The survey showed that most of the participants “believe cloud security has improved over the past five years” and that it will only continue to grow more advanced. Additionally, 85% said that it is “very” or “extremely” important to have multiple physical security systems and devices “integrated into one centralized system.” This further underscores that in a time when it’s necessary to integrate both new and old systems within one company, one really can’t avoid the power of the cloud.

Security Magazine covered the poll’s findings, writing that more than 80% of the survey’s respondents stated AI-based video analytics will be a significant factor in future physical security programs.

Perhaps the most striking finding is one the magazine chose to highlight — 7 in 10 respondents said they expect their companies “will increase spending in 2025 for physical security systems.” This dedication to further cloud investments reveals just how committed the security industry at large is to this integrated technology. As threats become ever more advanced, leaders in the field must do everything in their power to bolster their system integrations. With this in mind, adopting the cloud really can’t be avoided.
